Students with the Vail School District will soon be participating in a fundraising event to help Arizona veterans and the Fisher House.
According to a recent release from the Vail District, veteran Brian Kolfage, a triple amputee, will be speaking with the students at Andrada Polytechnic High School about how Fisher House helped him. The presentation will also be viewed on live feed to the other schools in the Vail District, according to the release.
The students will be selling flags for $1, from October 20 to November 11, with the funds going toward the $3 million goal to build a Fisher House in Arizona. According to district officials the flags will be displayed at the schools and may be dedicated to specific veterans or service members.
A special award will be given to the schools that have raised the most money per student, and that had the most creative way of fundraising; each will receive a flag that has flown over the Capital.
Fisher House is a temporary home where military and veterans' families are able to stay at no cost, while their veteran/service member is receiving treatment at the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital or other medical facilities in Tucson.
If this fundraiser is successful, said the release, the Fisher House Foundation will use this style campaign as a model for future fundraisers across the U.S.
