Job Summary:

The Director of Individual Giving and Major Gifts will be responsible for directing the major gift program, including individuals, family foundations, and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) and oversee and direct the annual giving, monthly giving, and peer-to-peer programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Individual Giving

  • Direct, evaluate, and further develop a comprehensive strategy for annual giving (up to $9,999), recurring, and peer-to-peer programs.
  • Oversee and manage work performed by fundraising vendors, volunteers, and consultants.
  • Expand the matching gift program.
  • Solicit and steward peer-to-peer corporate champions.
  • Track donor communication in Salesforce.

Major Gifts

  • Direct, evaluate, and further develop a comprehensive strategy for the major gift program ($10,000 - $1 million).
  • Oversee and manage work performed by fundraising vendors, volunteers, and consultants.
  • Build and maintain a 100-person portfolio of current and lapsed donors with the capacity to give.
  • Create major gift fundraising reports.
  • Research new prospective donors.
  • Initiate and coordinate donor interaction with primary contacts.
  • Track activities and communication in Salesforce.
  • Coordinate and create collateral materials.
General Foundation Support:
  • In addition to essential and secondary duties, all staff is expected to:
  • Assist and represent the Foundation in various activities and fundraising events.
  • Be readily available to engage and assist donors and partners by: answering the phones, processing donations, welcoming guests, answer general questions, and assisting with other tasks not outlined in the job description if needed or as requested.


Education, Experience & Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • 7+ years of previous experience working with donors with a proven track record of building relationships including identifying, cultivating and stewarding.
  • Must have excellent networking skills and excel at marketing grassroots events to major gifts.
  • Knowledge of “best practices” in the fundraising field.
  • Demonstrated experience using computers and relevant software applications, including database management, spreadsheets, and word processing systems.
  • Proficient in the following programs:
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
    • Salesforce experience - preferred
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to converse diplomatically and effectively with volunteers, donors, and staff.
    • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbal and in writing.
    • Ability to identify problems and develop innovative solutions.
    • Ability to handle and maintain the integrity of sensitive and confidential information.
    • Ability to organize, prioritize work, take initiative, lead others and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work well with others and in a team environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
    • Promote and exhibit loyalty to service members, veterans and their families.
    • Professional office etiquette.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Must be able to travel and work odd hours in support of various FHF operations and events to create and develop meaningful relationships.



Occasional travel (approximately 20%)


Exempt, Full-Time


Regular: Monday-Friday (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)


Salary commensurate with experience
